History of Paulette Volunteer Fire Department

The Paulette Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1992 as an all volunteer fire department to provide fire coverage in the southwestern portion of Union County TN, which is known as the Paulette Community, and at that time did not have a primary fire department. In 1998 the second station was built and online to provide a fire station in the Hickory Valley Community to provide fire coverage to this community as well which along with the Paulette Community had no primary fire coverage.

How we Operate

The department over the years has advanced in the services that it provided to the community, the fire engines carry extrication equipment used to remove patients that are trapped in there vehicles that have been involved in accidents. We have members certified as divers, in rope rescue, and we proved first response for the community with the Union County EMS.

Each year the department continues to grow as do the cost to operate the department. Last year the department call volume was 512, which was a large increase from 2007. The county contribution to the department is $15,000.00 dollars, which covers the insurance for the personnel, equipment and stations. The rest of the money to operate the department comes from the yearly mail-out, which was sent to over 3000 homes in the coverage district in 2008 and had a return of 147 and a total of just under $7,000.00 dollars. This did not come close to the amount needed. The department also must do other fundraiser to continue to operate every Monday night at the fire station there is a community music jam to help with operation costs, it is free to all, concessions are sold and those processed go to the fire department. We also do road-block fund drives two times a year.

The department was awarded a grant to purchase a new vehicle through the 2008 Assistant to Firefighter Grant. The vehicle that will be purchased is a 2008 International 4 Door Engine. This will be the first new apparatus that Paulette has ever had. The vehicle is scheduled to be on May 25th 2009. Pictures will be added.
